How We Work
The Diabetes Leadership Council is comprised of individuals who combine their passion for advocacy with decades of diabetes experience and leadership to advance patients-first policies at the local, state and national levels. Our members – all former leaders of national diabetes organizations – engage policymakers, and public and private sector influencers to call attention to the diabetes epidemic and provide a voice for 34 million Americans with the disease.
DLC communicates with influential individuals and organizations throughout the country via emails, letters, position papers, conferences, and press releases. We stress the seriousness of diabetes, and the barriers to treatment that would otherwise allow people with diabetes to lead full and healthy lives.
DLC is passionate about raising awareness. We want individuals and organizations to understand the problems diabetes causes – not just to the health of the individuals affected by it, but also its impact on our economy, our society, and particularly our health care system.
Above all, DLC advocates for the millions of people affected by diabetes. We support efforts to find a cure for diabetes, strategies for preventing new cases of diabetes, and work to ensure the safety and quality of care for people with diabetes. DLC regularly advocates for federal, state, and global diabetes-related initiatives.
