Diabetes Advocates Call for CDC Guidance on COVID Vaccine Boosters

National diabetes advocacy organizations called on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to consider people with diabetes in the agency's guidance on COVID-19 vaccine boosters. The Diabetes Leadership Council, Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition, American Diabetes Association, JDRF and others wrote to the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on August 13, highlighting the disproportionately negative impact of COVID-19 infection on people with diabetes. ACIP voted unanimously to prioritize people with severe immunosuppression for vaccine boosters. Additional populations will be evaluated in future guidance.
