Patient Cost Sharing & Caps

Diabetes management should be covered as preventive care, with pre-deductible coverage for health care products and services prescribed to manage an insured’s diabetes or diabetes-related conditions or complications. This includes prescription medicines, medical devices, software, services, supplies, medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES).

First dollar coverage is particularly important for people with costly chronic conditions like diabetes that require multiple prescriptions, devices, services and supplies to manage. It makes essential medicines like insulin more affordable – improving adherence and lowering overall health costs to more than offset any cost of improved coverage.
